Our organic oats are harvested. The sunflowers have gone to seed and the birds are very happy. What an assortment of birds due to so many seeds on our sunflower strip and our organic farming is such a bonus for wild life. The apples are ripe, please help yourselves! Lambs have done well.
The cottages have all had a freshen up with paint inside and out, they are looking good.
The swans are disappointed as no cignets this year. The king fisher are racing up the Eden.
Our poultry collection has been reduced to Hoot and Mrs Hen due to an unexpected visit from Mr Todd, the fox. Mrs Hen was nesting but the crows pinched her eggs so nature goes on in unpredictable fashion.
Nigel in the village sells organic eggs so that is handy! There is a lovely strawberry farm at Rutherford so time your stay ! Delicious! Julian in Kelso also sells superb fruit and veg and he is based at Klondyk Garden centre.
The Borders are looking beautiful and there are a host of activities from Local Common Ridings, Melrose Book fair to Kelso Show and everything in between.
Cliftonhill Farm grows organic oats which are sold to Hogarths Mill in Kelso for where they get milled before being made into Nairns organic oatcakes - delicious and healthy! We also produce organic lamb and our lambing was in March this year. We grow good grass full of clover and the lambs do well on this. We are members of the Soil Association.
